Wheel Burnt Rails
Brief Description :

Wheel burns are caused by slipping of the driving wheel of locomotives on the rail surface. Wheel burns are generally noticed where there are steep gradients or where there are incidences of rain. Sometimes, in case where hauling power of locomotive is not sufficient to carry the load of train, wheel slip is noticed due to which rail temperature rises and resulting in melting of rail surface. These defects are known as Wheel Burns.
