Girish, I think we r drifting in d other direction. You know dat powers have been delegated right upto DRM for consultancy works. These works, apart from the architect, go through the grind of many a mind, b4 it rests upon the executive. There seems no way out now, except putting our foot down , and allowing the architect to go ahead. But, youll agree wid me dat Local influences on these works are very powerful , and so should they be. As far as standardisation of items is concerned, yes, we do have SORs which can be put to better use.

Choice of the materials will be based on localy available materials, their durability etc. So there cannot be any standardisation of materials to be used in station buildings, quarters, road, drainage etc.. to be adopted all over Indian Railways. The choice of materials can be locally decided by the THOD of the Railway as per para 209 of the works manual. In Western Railway, PCE has issued a circular for type of flooring to be used in stations, platforms etc..
